How to use Basic HTML data type

HTML data types determines the type of the value assigned to attributes and content type to be specified within HTML elements. Many web development company use these data types. These datatypes are specified within each element in HTML4.01 specification.

The different data types are:


Character Encodings

Character encoding is a technique of converting a series of bytes to character. The server sends the HTML document in streams of bytes. Hence, to convert the series of bytes into character format. Character encoding is defined as charset within the DTD.

Dates and Times

Date and time formats represents the difference format in which arrangement of date and time is specified within the HTML elements. The date and times are defined as Datetime within the DTD of the HTML 4.01 specification.

Link type

Link types represents the kind of links that can be provided within the HTML elements. They are defined as Link Types within the DTD of the HTML 4.01 specification. Link types are case-insensitive. The different link types include alternate, stylesheet, prev, next, content, glossary, bookmark, and so on.


META Element

Metadata refers to information about the data within the document. The document includes information such as the author, copyright, keywords and so on. Keywords assigned within the META elements are used by search engines to identify content within document.

In HTML, the META elements is used to provide META information within HTML document. The META element is declared within the HEAD element of the HTML document. There is no limit in the number of META elements to be included within an HTML document.
